1/3 cup butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 eggs
5 cups sifted flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup milk
2 teaspoons anise flavoring
1/4 cup chopped citron
1/4 cup chopped candied cherries

Cream butter.  Add sugars.  Beat eggs until light and add to butter and sugar.  Sift together dry ingredients.  Add to dough, alternately with milk, beating well after each addition.  Stir in flavoring, citron and cherries.  roll in small balls.  Place on greased baking sheet.  allow to dry 10 hours.  Bake at 325 degrees for 15 minutes.  cookies may be rolled in powdered sugar immediately after removal from the oven.  Makes seven dozen cookies.
