Glazed Yams with Almonds

6 medium-size yams
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup butter
1/4 cup slivered blanched almonds

Boil yams in jackets until tender but still whole.  Peel and cut in halves.  Grease a shallow baking pan.  Place potatoes in one layer in pan.  Sprinkle with salt, brown sugar and melted butter.  Bake at 300 degrees about 40 minutes.  Turn during baking.  About 15 minutes before potatoes are done, sprinkle with slivered almonds.
