Date-Flake Bread

(Yield: 1 loaf)

2 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup chopped dates
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1 egg
1 1/4 cups milk
1/4 cup molasses
4 Tablespoons melted shortening or oil
1 cup ready-to-eat cereal flakes

Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar.  Stir in dates and nuts.

Beat egg.  Combine with milk, molasses and slightly cooled fat.  Add to dry ingredients.  Stir only enough to dampen flour.  Fold in cereal flakes, being careful not to over-mix.

Turn into well-greased loaf pan, 9 by 4 inches.  Bake in moderate oven, 350 degrees, about 1 hour.  Cool on rack.
