Sesame Twists

Sesame Twists
(Yield: About 4 dozen)

4 1/2 cups sifted flour
2 teaspoons single-action baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup margarine
1 3/4 cups sugar
2 eggs
2/3 cup toasted sesame seeds
1/2 teaspoon grated lemon peel
2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons lemon juice

Sift flour, baking powder and salt together.

Cream margarine and sugar until light and fluffy.  Beat in eggs, then stir in 1/3 cup toasted sesame seeds and lemon peel.

Add the flour mixture alternately with the water and lemon juice.  Divide dough into 8 equal parts.  Roll each into a strip 24 inches long.  Cut into 6 pieces.

Along one side, at 1/2 inch intervals, cut slits half way through each piece.

Coil ends toward the center of uncut side.  Place on greased baking sheet.  Sprinkle with remaining sesame seeds.  Bake at 400 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.
