Nutmeg Cookie Logs

3 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup butter
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 teaspoons rum flavoring
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg, unbeaten

Sift flour and nutmeg together.  Cream butter with vanilla and rum flavoring; gradually add sugar, creaming well.  Blend in egg and add the dry ingredients gradually; mix thoroughly.  Shape pieces of dough on lightly floured surface into long rolls, 1/2 inch in diameter.  Cut into 3 inch lengths; place on ungreased baking sheets.  Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes.  Cool; frost.  Mark frosting with tines of fork to resemble bark.  Sprinkle with nutmeg.  Makes 8 dozen cookies.

Frosting: cream 3 tablespoons butter, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and 1 teaspoon rum flavoring.  Add 2 1/2 cups sifted powdered sugar alternately with 2 to 3 tablespoons cream, beating until spreading consistency.
