Icebox Crispies

1 1/2 cups corn flakes or bran flakes
2 cups sifted flour
2 teaspoons double-acting baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter or shortening
1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
2 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 1/2 teaspoons lemon juice

Measure cereal flakes and then crush them.  Set aside.
Sift together flour, baking powder and salt.

Cream shortening.  Add sugar gradually, and cream together until light and fluffy.  Add eggs and beat well.  Add flour mixture gradually.  Add vanilla, lemon juice and cereal.

Shape into rolls 1 1/2 inches in diameter.  Wrap in waxed paper and chill overnight, or until firm.  Cut in thin slices.

Bake on ungreased cookie sheets in preheated 400-degree oven, 5 to 6 minutes.

Yield: Four dozen
