Oatmeal Crispies

1 cup soft shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon soda
3 cups quick-cooking rolled oats
1/2 cup chopped almonds
1/2 cup chopped raisins or chopped coconut

Cream shortening and sugars together until fluffy.  Add eggs and vanilla.  Beat well.

Sift together flour, salt and soda.  Add to sugar mixture. Mix in oats, nuts and raisins.  Shape into rolls.  Chill thoroughly or freeze.  Slice 1/8 inch thick and place on ungreased cookie sheets about 1 inch apart.

Bake in preheated 375-degree oven about 10 minutes.
 
Yield: Five dozen
