Love Cake

1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 1/4 cups sifted flour
3 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
8 egg whites

Cream butter well, add sugar gradually beating until light and fluffy, add vanilla.  Then sift dry ingredients alternately with milk beating until smooth, beat egg whites until stiff but not dry.  fold in egg whites, pour batter into four round 9" pans 1" deep lined on bottom with brown paper and greased.

Love Frosting

8 egg yolks
1 1/4 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup finely chopped raisins
1 cup shredded fresh coconut
1 cup cut candied cherries
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup bourbon
Rye whiskey

Beat egg yolks slightly, add sugar and butter.  Put in sauce pan and cook over medium heat stirring constantly for about 5 minutes or until sugar is dissolved and mixture is slightly thickened.  Remove from heat and add remaining ingredients.  Let stand until cool before spreading on cake.
