Butterscotch-Nut Loaf
1 egg, beaten
2/3 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons melted shortening
2 1/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon double-acting baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup sour milk
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1 teaspoon vanilla
Mix together beaten egg, brown sugar and melted shortening.
Sift and measure flour. Re-sift with soda, baking powder and salt. Add to egg-and-sugar mixture alternately with sour milk, with little mixing.
Add chopped nuts and vanilla. Stir until well mixed.
Bake in greased loaf pan in moderate oven, 350 degrees for one hour.
