Crumb Cake

2 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon cloves
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup mixed butter and shortening
1 cup raisins
1 egg, beaten
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon soda

Sift flour and measure.  Sift flour into bowl with sugar, spices and salt.  Cut in shortening, as for biscuits.  Set aside one cup of this crumbly mixture for topping

Add raisins to mixing bowl.

Stir soda into buttermil.  Mix with beaten egg.  Add to flour mixture and stir just until blended.  Spread in greased 8- by 11-inch pan.  Sprinkle reserved crumbs over the top.  Bake at 375 degrees 35 minutes.
